Food and Sustainability

  

The Food and Sustainability department at the Dawson Boys and Girls Club offers a wide range of programs and activities to the community. Our goal is to foster safe, inclusive spaces where all participants learn, share and grow together while ensuring food security for all.

Dawson hosts a community meal every Tuesday from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
that is prepared by our chef Miki and a team of volunteers. The meal includes an entrée, main course, and dessert. 
 
This event is on a pay-what-you-can basis and everyone is welcome!

Dawson offers a mini market every Tuesday from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm where we offer fresh fruits and vegetables at a reduced cost.

Mobile market of Verdun The mobile market is a pop up market that takes place every week in different low-rent housing of Verdun.

Our goal is to give the possibility to the most vulnerable citizens of our neighbourhood (low income, reduced mobility, social isolation) to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at a low price.

Markets schedule

September to June:

– Habitations Fernande-Rochon-de-Gongre (1050 Galt Street): Monday 1.00 – 2.30
– Habitations Clotilde d’Amico (4000 Bannantyne Av) : Thursday 12.00 – 1.30
– Habitations Simone-Léveillée (5630 LaSalle Blvd): Frida 9.30 – 11.00

June to August:

Manna is a food bank we offer twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 12pm. Sign up for this service is only available during these dates.
 
At the moment, the requirements require that you are a resident of Verdun and a recipient of social assistance (welfare). For new registrations, please ensure you arrive with a proof of residence, your welfare slip, and a piece of valid ID. 
 
Manna is closed the first Wednesday and Friday of every month.
